How to Create a QQ Account in 2026 for International Users
Can you create a QQ account without a Chinese phone number? Yes, you can start the registration with your own phone number. The problem is that QQ can ask for extra verification before you can finish creating the account.
In this guide, I will show you how QQ registration works, from entering your phone number to SMS verification and the QR verification step.
I am Korean and I have lived and studied in China for a long time. I have used many Chinese apps myself, so I know that signing up for Chinese services can be frustrating when you are outside China.
Can You Create a QQ Account Without a Chinese Number?
You do not have to start with a Chinese phone number. In the QQ app, you can select your own country code and enter your foreign mobile number.
But using a foreign number does not mean the registration will always go through right away. QQ checks the registration and can ask for another security step.
Step 1: Download the QQ App
First, download the official QQ app from your phone's app store and open it. On the first screen, look for Register and tap it.
The screen can look a little different depending on your phone and the version of the QQ app, but the registration option is there.
Step 2: Select Your Country Code and Phone Number
Select your country code and enter your own mobile phone number. Then accept the terms shown on the screen and continue.
Sometimes QQ shows a security screen with instructions in Chinese. If you cannot read Chinese, just use a translation app to check what it says before continuing.
Step 3: Verify Your Phone Number by SMS
QQ will send a verification code to your phone. Enter the code and continue.
Step 4: Complete QQ QR Verification
This is where many people outside China get stuck.
After the phone verification, QQ can show a QR code and ask another QQ user to scan it. The person scanning the code also needs to meet QQ's requirements.
What Does the QQ QR Verification Message Mean?
QQ asks you to find at least two QQ users who meet its requirements.
The requirements shown on the screen include things such as having a QQ account for more than six months and having QQ Wallet linked to a bank card. QQ can also require that the person has not recently helped another account with verification.
Why Is QQ QR Verification Difficult for People Outside China?
If you live outside China, you probably do not have two QQ users nearby who meet all of these conditions.
